<p>Creative questions are a no-brainer for all market research screeners, but they have an especially big impact in creating survey related recruitment screeners.</p>

What’s more, if retailers are going to recover, the need for empathy and understanding amongst nervous customers is greater than ever before.</p>

On a global scale, Europe’s luxury market is expected to suffer an average sales loss of more than 35%, whilst Forrester predicts that the <a href="https://go.forrester.com/press-newsroom/forrester-retail-will-see-a-2-1-trillion-loss-globally-in-2020-due-to-coronavirus-pandemic/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">global loss in the retail sector will hit $2.1 trillion.</a></p>
<p>However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Angelfish recently conducted research with a large homeware retailer suggesting that 45% of consumers are excited about shops reopening. But as stores up and down the country begin to open their doors, what does the new normal look like, and what does it mean for the retail industry?</p>

<p>From social distancing to changing shopper attitudes, online shopping to click and collect, things are set to look pretty different on the high street. Here are just a few ways that things could change in the coming weeks and months:</p>

<h4>More online shopping</h4>
<p>One key thing to expect when the shops reopen their doors is that online shopping will continue to take center stage. Even before the pandemic, online shopping was growing in popularity year on year due to ease and convenience &#8211; and new data shows that <a href="https://internetretailing.net/covid-19/covid-19/coronavirus-round-up-next-boots-debenhams-imrg-naked-wines-john-lewis-partnership-ons-and-more-21238" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">UK online retail sales rose by 22%</a> in the first week of April compared to the same time last year.</p>
<p>Due to consumer nerves, the longer the crisis lasts, the greater the likelihood that online and omnichannel purchasing will become the next normal and remain an essential part of life post lockdown. A survey conducted in late March found that <a href="https://www.digitalcommerce360.com/article/coronavirus-impact-online-retail/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">90% of shoppers</a> were hesitant to shop in-store because of the coronavirus, with Angelfish’s research showing that as many as 61% of consumers are planning to continue with online shopping once stores reopen.</p>
<p>So, what does this mean for market research? Well, for starters, it means that user experience and usability testing will become increasingly important as the shift to digital purchasing continues. With more people shopping online, websites, apps, and all online channels need to be easy to use. <p>The desire for contactless shopping also means that it could (finally!) be augmented reality’s time to shine. In fact, within the next five years, it will most likely become more mainstream to try on clothes virtually with augmented reality. About one-third of shoppers already use AR in stores, and experts predict the market could <a href="https://thinkmobiles.com/blog/augmented-reality-retail/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">grow to be worth $130 billion by 2020.</a></p>
